The Key Parts of Health Screening

A periodical executive health screening ensures wellness of the health. Some people here in Singapore consider it as a preventive step and a way to detect more serious health conditions before it starts causing problems. An annual health screening also helps monitor body vitals, such as the blood pressure, cholesterol levels, weight, and other essential markers.

When undergoing such examination, there are several health screening packages to choose from. And these packages contain the same important parts that every patient should go through in a screening session. What are these key parts? They are as follows:

1. The Health and Lifestyle Questionnaire

Before the screening starts, you’re asked to answer a questionnaire about your health and lifestyle. Answer them honestly and as fully as possible since this is going to serve as a basis in identifying the procedure you will have to go through. In answering the questions, you may also highlight the top concerns that you would like the doctor to focus on during the test.

2. Urine Analysis

When you get to the clinic such as Asiamedic a healthcare screening centre in Singapore you will have to provide a sample of your urine on-site. The urine analysis will include tests for diabetes, protein levels, and kidney and bladder disorder. This test is crucial since the tests done with the urine are about the internal system.

3. Electrocardiograph (ECG) Test

All patients will have to undergo resting ECG test, which is an electrical analysis of the function and shape of the heart while the patient is at rest. This test only lasts for a couple of minutes and is pain free. The machine used for ECG test records electrical activities coming from the patient’s heart through the wires attached to the body—specifically over where the heart is located. Signs of various heart diseases, like previous heart attack and hypertension, can be detected from this analysis.

Also, there’s exercise ECG, which is said to provide more accurate and informative results. Most patients, who are still able and are physically fit to jog, opt for this test over the resting ECG test. This exercise raises your pulse rate and puts greater demand on the heart. This test is done primarily to look for signs of coronary artery disease. Many Singapore patients with such diseases have normal resting ECG result and usually requires higher pulse rate to show signs of the illness.

4. Bowel Examination

Apart from being asked with questions about your bowel activity and any symptoms, all health screening also provide Faecal Occult Blood (FOB) test. This test detects small amounts of blood in the faeces, which might indicate some internal problems or any form of bowel disorder.

The screening process depends on which clinic you’re attending, but you’ll be advised in advance in your appointment letter. Some clinics provide a testing kit, along with the appointment letter, for collecting stool sample, which could either be taken to the clinic prior the appointment or be brought on the day of the screening.

If no testing kit is included, it’s most likely that you will be provided with one in the clinic on the day of the screening and your doctor will explain to you how to use the kit. Once you’ve provided a stool sample, it will be sent to a laboratory in Singapore for analysis and you will be informed accordingly when will the result be available, which should be no more than a week for an executive health screening.

5. Blood Test

Your health screening will also include extensive range of blood tests. This will include cholesterol level test, therefore you’ll need to fast for six to eight hours prior the blood sampling for the test to be effective. Also, fasting allows accurate analysis of blood glucose level and provides good indication of whether you have signs of diabetes. The results of your blood test will be explained by your doctor and in printed report.

While health screening packages contain different tests, which depend on the needs of the patient, there are several examinations that are necessary to all kinds of people. The tests we mentioned above serve as preliminary health assessment stage and could serve as a determining factor whether you will need a more comprehensive set of tests.
